Evasi0n was released in February and has been updated to
support iOS 6 – 6.1.2. Although iOS 7 is well under way there are still a
few who might want to jailbreak their iPhone 5 on an older firmware. If you want to jailbreak you iPhone 5 using Evasi0n, here’s how:
How to Jailbreak using Evasion :
-
Download Evasi0n onto your Mac or PC
-
Make sure you back up your iPhone 5 using iTunes or iCloud just in case anything goes wrong
-
If your iPhone 5 is not already on iOS 6.1.2 you must update it. Do this via iTunes, not OTA.
-
If you have a passcode lock set on your iPhone 5, disable it for now. Do this by going to Settings > General > Passcode Lock, and tapping to turn it off.
-
Launch Evasi0n from your desktop – Windows users, right-click on the icon and select Run as Administrator. Mac users, if you have trouble opening it, right-click and select Open
-
Ensure that your iPhone 5 is properly connected to your computer and shut down iTunes.
-
The Evasi0n screen should recognize your iPhone 5 so click on Jailbreak
-
Leave everything alone while Evasi0n begins the process of jailbreaking your iPhone 5
-
Your iPhone 5 will reboot; tap the new Jailbreak icon on the Home Screen
-
Evasi0n will now finish jailbreaking, your iPhone 5 will reboot a few times
-
When it reboots for the final time the Cydia icon will be on your Home Screen.
iOS 7 Jailbreak Progress :
Now that iOS 7 is on its 2nd beta, talk is turning to the subject of an untethered jailbreak for it. Apple has taken ideas from the jailbreak community to add in some new features to the iOS and some people are wondering if there will still be a need for a jailbreak utility now.
While you cannot and will not be able to jailbreak either
6.1.3 or 6.1.4 with an untethered utility, there will most definitely be
one for iOS 7. Evasi0n was released in February to jailbreak almost
all iOS devices on iOS 6. While it was most certainly one of the most
successful utilities ever released, Apple patched it with iOS 6.1.3.
6.1.4 followed shortly afterwards for iPhone 5 users. You can carry
out a tethered jailbreak on 6.1.3 if you have an iPod Touch 4, iPhone 3GS or 4 and this can be done using Redsn0w or Sn0wbreeze You can also use Redsnow to downgrade back to 6.1.2 and then jailbreak with evasi0n again. Our tutorials can be found here to help you with the evasi0n jailbreak. If you have a device than the 3 listed above and you are on iOS 6.1.3 or 4 you are going to have to wait for the iOS 7 jailbreak.
Interestingly enough, it’s not clear who is going to release the untethered iOS 7 jailbreak.
Evad3rs, responsible for evasi0n and P0sixninja are both working on
one but nobody is saying who will release it or if there will be more
than one available. What we do know is that no jailbreak will be released until after the GM Beta is released. Registered developers can download iOS 7 Beta 3 . If you are not one but still want to download it you can but it is at your own risk.
